Each piece of Artwork is handmade by Steve Hawkins. The cowboys, for example, are my most popular balanced mobile. They are made from horseshoe nails, brass, and copper. Each piece is cut out, bent, and formed by hand, then welded together. The reddish color you see is achieved from heat applied to the copper as it is brazed together. The wire is hand twisted to make the lasso, with careful attention to get just the right balance. A Clear coating is applied to protect the finish. Give the lasso a spin and watch it go. The Horses, Angels, and Eagles are drawn onto cold rolled steel, then cut out by hand with a plasma cutter. The yellow-gold colors you see are brazing, forming the eyes, beaks, hooves, etc. A hand grinder is used to form the details of each piece to create muscle tones, coat, or feathers as the sculptures show. The grindings in the wall sculptures reflect the light brilliantly to the eye of the passerby. All steel surfaces are sealed with a protective coating to preserve the finish.
The Copper Fountains are made entirely of copper. The hand formed pan is solid copper. The tubbing and leaves/flowers are all made of copper, so nothing will rust. Copper does take on a "Patina" or color when exposed to water, making it even more beautiful with time. My customers especially enjoy the fact that my fountains do not "Splatter". They are designed to make a soothing sound without the splattering problem some fountains have. Each fountain comes complete with an adjustable pump, pan, copper ring, tubing, and even river rocks. Just fill it with water, plug it in, and enjoy art in motion!
